Duties

The Blue Lake Township Assessor is the person who has been hired by the Township to assess all the property in the township to ensure that the values of the property are at 50% of the current market value.

The assessor must follow the State of Michigan and the State Tax Commission rules and guidelines. In February the Assessor will send out the assessment change notices notifying property owners of their values. The assessment change notice tells the property owner what their assessed value and taxable value will be for that year. Should the property owner disagree with the values established in the assessment change notice, you must appeal to the March Board of Review, the March Board of Review is the only time you can object to your valuations. However, the Assessor will be happy to discuss your valuation prior to the March Board of Review and if possible, reach a satisfactory conclusion to the concern of the property owner.

In Blue Lake Township the Assessor is also the Land Division Agent and is responsible for receiving, reviewing and approving all land divisions.

You can access Board of Review, PRE (homestead) forms as well as other tax forms and contact numbers in assessment administration at the Department of Treasury web site as well. Should you require a copy of your plat or a map showing your parcel it can be obtained on the Kalkaska County web site. Assessments and taxable value information are also available at the County as well.
